What Can I Do?

Here's what you can do to oppose Toronto Redi-Mix at 207 New Toronto Street:

1. Send your comments & concerns to the Ministry of Environment by December 28, 2005

2. Become a Member of New Toronto Good Neighbours Association

3. Write letters or emails to your councillor, representatives and the Mayor

1. Send your comments to the Ministry of Environment (MOE)
by December 28, 2005

Toronto Redi-Mix has applied for a Certificate of Approval from the MOE for permission to emit substances other than water into the air.

To operate at 207 New Toronto Street, Toronto Redi-Mix needs a Certificate of Approval.

The Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) allows the public to comment on any negative impacts the application could have on the environment and surrounding community.

Toronto Redi-Mix has applied to the MOE under the company name 693316 Ontario Limited. To view the application, please visit the website http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/envregistry/026583ei.htm

It is important to know that you do not need to have special knowledge about the application to make a comment to the MOE.

If you submitted comments in the Spring of this year on the first Toronto Redi-Mix application, tell the Ministry that you want those comments considered in this application. The Ministry has told us the original file is closed and they will not be considering any comments submitted in the Spring for this application, even though it is for the same company, at the same address and the same three industries Concrete, Salt and Aggregate depots. Since Toronto Redi-Mix withdrew their first application for 207 New Toronto Street it means that all 70 comments submitted in the Spring of this year were not considered by the Ministry.

You can voice your concerns about:
- health effects
- air quality
- noise
- emissions
- soil/water contamination
- any issue which should be considered before the MOE grants the certification

This is your chance to SPEAK OUT to the province about
why you don't want a Concrete Batching Plant and Salt & Aggregate Storage & Distribution in your neighbourhood.

All comments must:

1. be submitted in writing (mail or fax);
2. reference the EBR Registry number
    IA05E1666
3. be received by December 28, 2005

IMPORTANT NOTE: Email and telephone comments will not be accepted.
