From: Lillian Jeronimo To: New Toronto Good Neighbours Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 11:13 PM Subject: Toronto Redi-Mix My name is Lillian Jeronimo and I live on Lansdowne Avenue near Bloor Street in Toronto. For years Ontario Redimix Ltd (original location) has been polluting our community. It is located on 57 Wade Ave. which is a side street [Note: Near Lansdowne Subway Station]. Years ago, this area was quite industrial. Old warehouses and factories have been converted to studios or lofts and many apartment buildings, condos, and a couple of housing complexes have been built since. A Tamil Co-op building was built some 13 years ago 20 feet across from Ontario Redimix Ltd. Concrete Batching Plant. This company has multimillion dollar contracts with the Emergency and Works Department for the City of Toronto, just in case you were wondering how they could get away with murder. You see, since conception, this company has grown, so they managed to “rent” TTC property for parking their trucks, and bought a neighbouring property which used to be an auto wrecker, all without notice of expansion to the community or an environmental assessment I’m guessing. Furthermore, the original property is in need of much repair as there is a lot of runoff into city sewers. The streets are disgusting, filled with dust and gravel, the city sidewalks are cracked, the trucks are too big for such a narrow TWO-WAY street and they idle on both sides of the street. All day long they rumble up and down Lansdowne with such loudness that in the summer I am unable to hear an indoor phone conversation. The amount of dust in my room, which faces the direction of the plant, is covered in fine black dust, not to mention the rest of the house, inside and out. I could go on and on about by-laws, MLS inspection, Ward 18 councillor Adam Giambrone, and Works dept inspectors, but the answers are all the same, “I’ll get back to you”. I have sent some pics to reinforce this nightmare. Please respond at your convenience. I found your sight while digging for info on the company. I’m glad I have since this community has been destroyed by drugs and prostitution and the government has failed it. It is disorganized and it seems that yours is not. I am a concerned member as well as a U of T student. I have decided to complete a project about my concerns and hopefully will get my community more organized. Thank you for your time and patience.
