Who are the New Toronto Good Neighbours?
New Toronto Good Neighbours Association is a non-partisan organization formed by and for the residents, property
and business owners of the New Toronto Area.
Our mandate is to foster a strong community of diverse ideas, talents, people and property.
We promote an environment of safety, improvement, and quality of life, through public neighbourhood
meetings, advocacy and partnerships within our community. We encourage open communication, respect, responsibility,
transparency, accountability and early public involvement. We share information and educate.
Our stand on the 207 New Toronto Street issue is:
Concrete batching is not a suitable use for property located beside homes, near schools, parks and a
growing community. Unfortunately, concrete batching is a permitted use under the current zoning of
207 New Toronto Street. We do not believe salt and de-icing storage and distribution are suitable uses, due to environmental
concerns and the intent to operate 24 hours during snowy weather.
We agree that this site should be used for commercial and/or industrial development. However, due to
the proximity of the site to a residential neighbourhood, all future development must be clean, contained
businesses which will not negatively impact the surrounding community and environment.
Obnoxious uses, such as those permitted under the IC-2 zoning are not acceptable.
The lands must be reclassified for IC-1 uses.
Our stand on the development of the TEDCO lands:
(Former Ivaco site bounded by 8th St., 13th St., New Toronto St. and Birmingham St.)
TEDCO has stated that they have no plans to sell the 40 acres of brownfield lands.
TEDCO recently announced that Canpar will be locating their new logistics/distribution facility on a portion
of the land. We feel that this is a good employment use for these lands.
TEDCO has stated "The planning for re-development of the balance of the site will respect the existing
neighbouring land uses".
We feel that it is imperative that the TEDCO lands be reclassified from IC-2 to IC-1 zoning to protect the rights of
the community stakeholders and ensure that the land CANNOT be used for obnoxious development.
